Are you looking for a cutting edge orthodontist in Spokane Valley, Cheney, or Liberty Lake? You’ve come to the right place, as there are two things I really love to interact with; people, and new technology.
As an orthodontist, I get to do both of these things every day and I’m always surprised by the way technology and helping people can come together in different ways. Taking care of your teeth is important, not just for your health, but your self-image, self-confidence, and a smile that will win over all the people you meet in your life.
Sometimes we need a little help to get a smile in top shape, but I have a lot of amazing technology that helps you get there faster and easier than ever before.
Digital Mouth Impressions
In the old days, if an orthodontist wanted a good look at your teeth, a reproduction had to be made of your mouth. Back then, this meant putting a kind of “goo” in a mold, then slipping that mold over your upper and lower teeth to take an impression and then make a copy of that impression.
Today, I use a device called an iTero intraoral scanner. There’s no goo, no mold, no sitting around waiting for the impression to form. Instead, the scanner makes a digital model of your mouth, and we’re done!
This means now we have a computer model of your teeth, in three dimensions that we can view from any angle, and even manipulate. So, if we need to put on braces, or show you what your teeth will look like after treatment is complete, you can see it instantly on screen.
The old way of getting an x-ray for teeth meant capturing the images on film, and only being able to view that picture on a light display or table. Today, things are a lot more interesting! A device called a cone beam CT can take a 3D image of your teeth and jaws, giving us so much more information to plan just the right treatment for you.
I’m very happy and proud to say that I’m one of Spokane’s premier Invisalign orthodontists. Anyone who’s had braces can tell you stories about having metal pieces painstakingly attached to their teeth, and, unfortunately, crossing certain foods off their list, like popcorn. Braces work great, but they have their drawbacks.
Invisalign and other modern braces technology change all that. Invisalign itself is transparent, and they can be removed when required, such as when playing sports, brushing your teeth, or eating your favorite foods.
Getting braces back in the old days could mean months—or even years—of wearing braces and coming into an orthodontist like me for constant readjustments to help the teeth move into a healthier position.
Today, we’ve got ways to shorten just how much time you need to wear braces or retainers. Technologies like Propel allow us to speed up the rate at which your bone metabolism works, allowing your teeth to move into the desired position faster. Now the idea of spending a big chunk of the formative teenage years with braces is a thing of the past. On request, we can use these technologies to speed things up and get healthier, better-positioned teeth faster than at any time in the past.
As an orthodontist, I’m really pleased and excited by the ways these technologies allow people to get to that ideal smile faster. And I’m always on the lookout for that new orthodontic technology that I can add to my services to make your results faster and better than ever.
